Dr R Guha Pradeepa is has earned her Doctorate of Philosophy from Madras University, Chennai. Her area of interest includes diabetes and its complications in epidemiological studies. With a broad background in nutrition, with specific training and expertise in epidemiology of diabetes and its complications and other Non Communicable diseases, she develops and implements projects and also coordinate multicentre International projects at MDRF. She has undergone training in “Diabetes and Cardiovascular Epidemiology” at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, U.S.A and an Intensive course on ‘Non-communicable diseases’ at the Copenhagen School of Global Health, University of Copenhagen, Denmark.

She has been instrumental in various studies at MDRF including the original Chennai Urban Rural Epidemiological Study (CURES), Center for cArdiometabolic Risk Reduction in South Asia [CARRS] study, Chunampet Rural Diabetes Prevention Project (CRDPP) and is one of the Co-Principal Investigators of the Indian Council of Medical Research– all India Diabetes (ICMR–INDIAB) study, which is to date the largest epidemiological survey undertaken in India to determine the nationwide prevalence of diabetes mellitus and pre-diabetes. The study involves individuals aged 20 years and above, from all the 28 states, NCT of Delhi and two of the Union Territories of India. Nearly 83,000 individuals have been enrolled in this study till date.

She has published extensively on complications associated with diabetes such as retinopathy, neuropathy, nephropathy and peripheral vascular disease. She has published over 130 research articles in peer reviewed journals including Lancet., Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology, Diabetes Care, Diabetes Medicine, Invest Ophthalmol Vis Sci, Metabolism etc., as well as 25 chapters in Textbooks.

She is a recognized supervisor for guiding students leading to the award of the Ph.D. degree in University of Madras, Chennai. She is an Editorial Board Member of the ‘Diabetes and Metabolic Disorders’ section of BMC Endocrine Disorders. Dr.Guha Pradeepa is also member of Institutional Animal Ethical committee at MDRF and Institutional Human Ethical Committee, Saveetha Dental College, Saveetha University. She is actively involved in co-ordinating and organizing the Workshops and Seminars on NCDs-Prevention and Control for community medicine and public health specialist at MDRF for the past 16 years.
